Updated: 29/09/2009

Bilha Givon, Executive Director of Sustainable Development in the Negev received the "Lifetime Achievement Award for Environmental Protection," granted by the Ministry of Environmental Protection during Israel's 60th Anniversary. The Ministry saluted individuals who have contributed to the environment from the time of the State's founding until today. The festive event took place in the Caesarea National Park on September 16, 2008, with President of the State of Israel, Mr. Shimon Peres, Environmental Protection Minister Gideon Ezra and Minister Ruhama Avraham, head of the Committee for Israel's 60th Independence Day Events.
Bilha was one of ten winners, who have made a substantial contribution to the environment in Israel. Winners were given a special certificate and a statuette, which was specially designed by one of Israel's foremost artisans.
The selection committee, headed by Supreme Court Justice Jacob Turkel (retired), included Director General of the Ministry of Environmental Protection Shai Avital, founder of Intel Israel Dov Frohman, Israeli author Sami Michael, Professor Tamar Dayan, media personality Moti Kirschenbaum and Naomi Tsur, a representative of Israel's green NGOs.
From the Environmental E-Bulletin of the Ministry of Environment:
In just four short years, the organization has managed to chalk up an impressive track record of work with government, industry and the public to improve environmental conditions and awareness. It is no wonder, therefore, that it was awarded the Environment Minister’s Award for exemplary volunteer activity in 2003 in recognition of its activities “on behalf of the Negev environment which may serve as an example of advancing sustainable development and acting for the benefit of future generations.”
